GOIN' BACK TO CALI: After a New Orleans reunion was out of reach, running back Reggie Bush chose to go back to his home state.

The California native has reached an agreement to join the 49ers, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN on Saturday.

Bush, 30, visited New Orleans earlier in the week, but the Saints chose to go a different route with C.J. Spiller. Bush, who also visited San Francisco, will join a backfield that includes Carlos Hyde and Kendall Hunter. All three will look to fill the void left by Frank Gore, who left San Francisco for Indianapolis.

Bush has two 1,000-yard seasons on the ground in the past four years. He dealt with an assortment of injuries in 2014, finishing with only 297 yards on 76 carries with two touchdowns in 11 games.

The #49ers have also added some reserve depth to the offensive line, signing former Buffalo Bills offensive lineman Erik Pears to a 2-year contract. The move comes a couple days after left guard Mike Iupati signed with the Arizona Cardinals.

Pears should probably not to be viewed as a guy who will take over at left guard. He might get a chance to compete for a starting position, but based on what I've read...if Pears claims a starting job, something has probably gone seriously wrong. Pears played guard last season, but had played right tackle much of the previous nine seasons
