BPFZ wishes a speedy recovery to Jose Alguacil, the Giants new first base coach. He was airlifted to a Phoenix trauma center and had surgery Saturday night after being struck in the face by a foul ball during the Giants’ exhibition game against the Kansas City Royals.
Alguacil's surgeons said they successfully repaired his fractured nose and a deep laceration to his face. Alguacil also has several small fractures in his left eye socket. The orbital fracture was thought to be "non-displaced" as it was not repaired in surgery.
Prior to being hired as the Giants new first base coach, Alguacil was a player in the Giants system. Then he managed AAA Sacramento River Cats last season, and the AA Richmond Flying Squirrels in 2015. Before that, he was a roving infield instructor. Alguacil has always had an excellent reputation.
