Congratulations Bruce Bochy, on your 800th win as manager of the San Francisco Giants! Flan called Boch a genius today, and I agree. He once said "we caught lightening in a bottle," but I think he is the lightening that we are all privileged to watch work 162 days per year, plus many more when you add in spring training and post season play.
He started in MLB in 1978. He played as a catcher his entire career which is one of the many reasons he gets on so well with Buster. He played for the Astros, Mets, and Padres. He managed the Padres from 1995-2006, and the Giants from 2007-present. I believe his contract goes through the 2019 season. He has 1,751 total regular season career wins as a manager, and many more in post season play.
He is currently the 4th most winning Giants manager. He is on track to pass Bill Terry who had 823 wins this season, and Dusty Baker who had 840 wins late this season or early next season. He will never be able to pass John McGraw who managed from 1902-1932 and had 2,583 wins! Boch is 61, and he joked that he'd have to work until he's 90 to come near that record!
