BPFZ Baseball Basics: you said you wanted to learn more basics of the game, so here we go! We'll start with the fielding positions.There are 9 fielding positions in baseball. Each position conventionally has an associated number, which is used to score putouts: 1 (pitcher), 2 (catcher), 3 (first base), 4 (second base), 5 (third base), 6 (shortstop), 7 (left fielder), 8 (center fielder), and 9 (right fielder).
