San Francisco 49ers football player in the ranks of the 351st Civil Affairs Command!
In the early years of the 351st Civil Affairs Command, we did in fact have a professional football player in the ranks of the 351 CACOM.
We discovered this fun bit of historical trivia organizing our historical photographs during this past weekend’s battle assembly. Following this year's Super Bowl, which occurred just down the freeway in Santa Clara, Calif. this discovery was just great timing.
According to several internet pages, here are some of Eddie Dove's football highlights:
•Played college football at University of Colorado as a defensive halfback. •Was the 29th pick in the 3rd round of the 1959 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49er's •Played for the 49er's from 1959 to 1963. Finished his career with the New York Giants in 1963. •Made the Pro Bowl in 1961.
We were not able to find any information on the internet regarding his Army Reserve service. The only information we have are the two newspaper clippings and photograph in this post.
